A little about us
At our West Sussex workshop, UK, each Contour Box is expertly crafted in solid oak and shaped using real landscape elevation data, turning a meaningful place into a tactile, sculpted object. Whether it marks somewhere you met, where you married, or a place that shaped your life, we are all about creating gifts with a truly personal significance.
Simple sustainability
Contour Boxes are made from carefully chosen materials, precise carving, and strong construction meant for long-term use. The goal is simple: to create objects that feel solid, work beautifully, and stay in people's lives for many years. To that end, every box is prepared, carved, and checked with great attention to detail before it leaves the bench.
And by the way...
In an effort to give back, a tree is planted for every box we create. This contributes directly to improving the air we breathe and the woodlands we visit; a small but steady step toward replenishing what we take.
About Tom Aylwin - founder
Contour Boxes are the culmination of over 25 years of experience making fine furniture and a childhood ambition to become a geologist. A graduate of the prestigious Rycotewood College, Oxford, Tom has always strived to craft personal and meaningful objects. By using the theme of 'place' his boxes embody this desire, the result being useful, beautiful objects that tell a story for generations to come.
" I am drawn towards objects that have a timeless quality as well as stand the test of time. This is often because they are made from the right materials and have personal meaning which makes them immediately precious, engaging and beautiful to the owner."
Tom’s studio in Sussex is well equipped to produce the highest level of work. He has made boxes for people all over the world, from New England to New Zealand. He currently stocks shops and galleries in the UK and exhibits his work as a member the Sussex Guild.
